When it comes to movies on trekking, one of the most talked-about movies to date is “Everest“. The movie based on real-life incidents captures the journey to two expedition teams and the challenges they face as they attempt to reach the world’s highest peak. They face one of the world’s fiercest snowstorms and trek through extreme conditions to get to the summit. The struggle they go through will make you sit at the edge of your seat.

2. Wild (2014)

Based on a true story of author – Cheryl Strayed, Wild takes you on a wild journey covering 1,000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail and shows you how a woman loses everything and finds her true self in the midst of nature. The movie is full of stunning Western scenery, a few laughs, and some pretty heavy moments. Reese Witherspoon got an Academy Award nomination for this movie.

3. Into the Wild (2007)

Into the Wild is one of those stories that will change your perspective on life. The movie follows a young man’s journey as he leaves behind his life as a college topper and athlete who leaves behind a privileged life to hitchhike to Alaska. This movie will inspire you and will remain with you for a long, long time to come.

4. Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani (2013)

We don’t think this movie needs any introduction. The movie that took India by a storm and introduced us to a whole new way of leading life. This movie has it all – friendship, romance, the will to follow your passion and an epic trek that probably made Manali’s Friendship peak trek super popular, highlighted the Himalayas and imbibed a culture of trekking in the country.

5. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

Speaking of epic Bollywood adventure movies, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara must have a mention! This movie made us laugh, smile, cry and gave us wanderlust goals to travel and be adventurous with our friends. In fact, this helped us see beyond those unfulfilled Goa and Ladakh dreams and gave us a new horizon of Spain!

6. The Way (2013)

If you’re up for some tear-jerking movie that will awaken every ounce of your soul, this one’s for you. The movie revolves around the journey of father who travels to Spain to recover the body of his son who dies while hiking the Camino de Santiago trail and decides to hike the trail himself and reconnect with his son.

7. The Summit (2013)

This documentary takes you on a journey to the summit of the second-highest peak in the world – K2. Located in the northwestern Himalayan region, this peak is deadly and is known to be murderous. This story revolves around 22 climbers from several international expeditions in August of 2008. Some get killed while others disappear into thin air. Watch this movie for its thrilling sequence and how it will always be the choice of the mountain to let you climb or not.

8. A Walk in the Woods (2015)

Here’s a light-hearted movie that will brighten up your day. Based on a true story and a book written by Bill Bryson, A walk in the woods is a movie about the writer who sets out to hike the Appalachian Trail with his friend covering over 3,500 Km and hiking through 14 states along the east coast of America.

Tracks is an incredibly adventurous journey of a young woman who hikes through the Australian desert stretching to over 1,700 miles with her four camels and faithful dog. This movie will definitely tempt you to head to the Australian outback!

10. Beyond The Edge (2013)

Ever wondered how the journey of the first-ever summit to Mt. Everest was like? Watch this docudrama that gives you a glimpse of how Sir Edmund Hillary and Sir Tenzing Norgay trekked up to the summit of Mt. Everest. This documentary also has some amazing audio clips from interviews of Sir Hillary during the original expedition!
