Overview

Nestled within the Kudremukh National Park in the Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka, the Netravati Peak Trek is one of the Western Ghats' best-kept secrets. Rising to an elevation of approximately 1,520 meters, this offbeat trail offers misty ridgelines, lush valleys, and panoramic vistas that few other treks in South India can match.

Named after the Netravathi River that originates at the base of the peak, the route passes through shola grasslands, gentle streams, and dense forest, culminating in sweeping summit views of the Belthangady region and surrounding hills. Covering approximately 12 km round-trip, the trail is easy to moderate — shorter and less steep than Kudremukh, making it ideal for first-time trekkers and fit beginners alike. Wildlife sightings of deer, macaques, and exotic bird species are common throughout.

TrekNomads offers a fully guided experience to Netravati Peak — handling permits, safety, and local expertise — so you can focus on the trail and soak in every moment of this stunning Western Ghats escape.

FAQ's

Netravati Peak Trek FAQs

How difficult is the Netravati Peak Trek?

The Netravati Peak Trek is rated easy to moderate, making it one of the most accessible treks in the Western Ghats. The trail has gradual ascents with no technical climbing involved. There are a couple of short steep sections near the summit and a few false peaks, but these require no special skills or prior experience. If you can comfortably walk 5–6 km on flat ground, you're ready for this trek.

What is the best time to do the Netravati Peak Trek?

The best time to trek Netravati Peak is October to February, when the weather is pleasant, skies are clear, and the trails are dry enough for comfortable hiking. The post-monsoon period (September–October) is especially scenic, the grasslands are lush green and seasonal waterfalls along the Bandaje stream are at their peak flow. Monsoon treks (June–September) are popular too, but expect muddy trails and misty conditions.

Also, trekking in summer can also be banned due to forest fires. So, planning your trek only after checking all the updates is strictly advised.

Do I need a permit to trek Netravati Peak?

Yes. Since the trail falls within Kudremukh National Park, a forest permit is mandatory. TrekNomads handles all permit arrangements as part of your trek package, you don't need to worry about any paperwork.
