What Makes the Dyalishera Bugyal Trek Special?
Some Himalayan treks are famous for their popularity, while others offer a quieter way to experience the mountains. The Dyalishera Bugyal Trek is one such journey. Located in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, this 8-day itinerary starts from Rishikesh and takes you towards Joshimath and Kharcho Village before entering forests, higher camps, and the open meadows of Dyalishera Bugyal. At 13,200 ft (4,023 m), the bugyal is the defining feature of the trek, while the trail offers views of Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, Hathi-Ghoda, Chaukhamba, Trishul, and Nanda Ghunti.
Who Should Choose the Dyalishera Bugyal Trek?
Rated as a moderate trek, Dyalishera Bugyal is suitable for fit beginners as well as trekkers with previous experience. The altitude gain is gradual, allowing your body time to adjust, but the summit day is demanding. If you are a nature enthusiast seeking solitude and some of the grandest mountain panoramas in the Indian Himalayas, this trek is for you.
Forests, Meadows and Himalayan Wildlife
The landscape shifts as the trek continues. It begins through oak and rhododendron forests, with shaded paths and birdsong, before opening into wide alpine meadows and mountain ridges. The region is also home to musk deer, Bharal (Himalayan blue sheep), and the Himalayan Monal, giving trekkers plenty to observe along the way. The changing landscape, combined with the wildlife, adds another dimension to the journey beyond reaching Dyalishera Bugyal.
Best Time to Visit Dyalishera Bugyal
The best time for the Dyalishera Bugyal Trek is March to June and September to December. Spring brings blooming rhododendrons and green meadows, while autumn offers clearer skies and better mountain views. If you enjoy colourful landscapes, spring is a good choice; for sharper views of the surrounding peaks, autumn may be preferable.
Dyalishera Bugyal Trek has been officially declared as the Trek of the Year 2026–2027 by the Uttarakhand government
An offbeat trail, expansive alpine meadows, changing forests, Himalayan wildlife, and views of major Garhwal peaks make the Dyalishera Bugyal Trek a strong contender for Uttarakhand's trek of the year. It may not be among the state's most talked-about routes, but its quieter character is exactly what makes the trek appealing.
